Working at an elevated height continues to be the main cause of fatal accidents in the workplace. Due to this, all workers carrying out work that is elevated are required to have the correct qualifications and appropriate training.
According to the regulations for safety in the workplace working at height means any work that is carried out above 2 meters as well as:
- The work is being carried out above the work area without fencing or a proper railing
- The work requires the individual to bend more than 45 degrees over a fence or railing of a work area or passageway.
- The work is carried out on a raised mobile platform, an elevated body basket or scaffolding.
A general course for working at height can be given by a ‘work at height’ instructor. However, Safety training for working at height on poles and scaling buildings can only be done at the academy for height training.
